Push notifications through wallet passes have open rates above 85%, compared to roughly 9% for email and 20% for SMS. They reach customers at the moment they are most likely to act — on their lock screen, alongside text messages and calls. Because the notifications come through the native wallet app rather than a third-party app, they bypass the notification fatigue that plagues marketing channels.

Benefits

Key benefits

01

10x Higher Opens

Lock screen notifications get attention because they appear in the same stream as personal messages and calls. Industry data shows wallet pass notifications achieve open rates above 85%, compared to roughly 9% for marketing emails. For a restaurant sending a Friday lunch special to 500 loyalty members, that means roughly 425 people will see the message — versus about 45 if it were sent by email.

02

No App Required

Notifications are delivered through the native wallet app that is already installed on every iPhone and most Android phones. Your customers do not need to download, maintain, or update a separate app. This removes the single biggest barrier to push notification marketing for small and mid-size businesses, which typically cannot justify the cost of building and maintaining a dedicated mobile app.

03

Scheduled Sends

Plan campaigns in advance by scheduling notifications for a specific date and time. This is useful for recurring promotions like Tuesday happy hours or Friday lunch specials that you want to run every week. You can prepare a full month of campaigns on a quiet Sunday afternoon and let them send automatically, freeing you from having to remember to hit "send" during a busy workday.

04

Segmented Targeting

Message specific customer groups based on their behavior. Send re-engagement offers to customers who have not visited in 30 days. Reward your top 10% most frequent visitors with exclusive deals. Target customers who are one stamp away from a reward with a nudge to come in today. Segmented campaigns consistently outperform broadcast messages by 3-4x in redemption rates because the message is relevant to the recipient.

Process

How it works

1

Compose Message

Write your notification in the Revio dashboard. Keep it short and actionable — wallet notifications display best at 50-100 characters. You can include promotional text, a call to action, or a simple reminder. The dashboard shows a preview of how the notification will appear on both iPhone and Android lock screens so you can adjust the wording before sending.

2

Select Audience

Choose to send to all enrolled customers, or narrow the audience by segment. You can filter by last visit date, total visits, current points balance, or reward status. For example, you might target customers who have not visited in 14+ days with a "We miss you" offer, or target customers with 8 out of 10 stamps with a "You are almost there" nudge.

3

Send or Schedule

Send immediately or schedule for a specific date and time. Scheduling is useful for time-sensitive promotions like lunch specials (send at 11am) or weekend events (send Friday morning). You can also cancel a scheduled notification before it sends if plans change. The dashboard shows the total audience count before you confirm, so you know exactly how many people will receive the message.

4

Track Results

After sending, the dashboard shows delivery count, open rate, and click-through rate. You can see which notifications perform best over time and refine your messaging. If you included a promotional offer, you can track how many customers redeemed it by correlating with visit data. This feedback loop helps you learn what resonates with your audience and optimize future campaigns.
